The Gospel Jesus Preached

Brad and I taped an extra podcast before I left for South Africa and we are releasing it now. So many of our institutional approaches to the life of Jesus are formulated around a truncated gospel—one that is incomplete and thus focused on the wrong priorities. Jesus didn't preach the gospel of the church or even a gospel of salvation. He taught the gospel of the kingdom—where his Father reigns over all. When we lose sight of that we end up with incomplete pictures of his work in us and the world, and end up investing our time and energies into that which matters little. We introduced you to Tom Mohn in our fourth podcast and in this one we use more of Wayne's interview with Tom to help us focus our hearts on that which counts most.

  1. I’m interested in listening to this as I’m in the midst of reading, praying, listening with the intention of writing an article about _The Gospel_ and what it is.

  2. The Gospel (good news of good) is one. Paul preached Christ’s death, burial and resurrection the third day according to all the scriptures, not some (1 Cor 15:1-6). Jesus preached the same gospel before (John 5:39) and after the resurrection (Luke 24). All the propehts bear witness to the gospel message. The only difference was Jesus preached the gospel in parables or a likeness and the likenesses are of the Christ. And Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ. There is one gospel, not two. Why did Jesus speak in parables? (Ps 78) So they would not believe according to the purpose of God. For had they known the Lord of glory they would not have crucified Him. God purposed man’s unbelief in the death, burial and resurrection of the Christ, and Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ. I am determined to know nothing among you but Christ and Him crucified. I agree with the words of Peter, the word preached by the gospel, BY THE GOSPEL. And the gospel is the Christ’s death, burial and resurrection the third day and Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ. What more can I say, The prophets and the law prophesy until John. (Mat 11:13) or “the Spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus, and the Spirit moved Holy men to write the scriptures and the Spirit only zealously testifies of Christ. And we continue to speak in a parable to them who do not believe, that all the writing of the prophets speak only of the Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. This gospel is a parable, something they do not understand, something that brings questions and doubts but with great purpose. There is no higher understanding than knowing Christ by grace given to us by God our Father. And my manner is, to go unto them and reason with them out of the scriptures, opening and alleging, that the Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead, and this Jesus whom I preach unto you is the Christ…and some believed (by grace).. and some were moved with envy. (according to the purpose of God). For He loves all men without partiality. Come and go with us to our Father’s house, where there is love, joy and peace!

Without utmost confidence in the message that only preaches Christ from all the scriptures of the prophets,
