The Fiefdom of Me (#543)

Perhaps the most destructive residual effect of the Fall is that we are all drawn into living the "fiefdom of me", determining good or evil based on how it brings me joy or sadness. How much that affects us is seen by how often what Father does in his thwarts our expectations, reminding us that there is still so much about him we haven't begun to understand. That's why it's more helpful to live in the bits God has revealed of himself to us, rather than making assumptions about what we think he ought to do if he shared in the agendas of our little fiefdom. Instead he is inviting us into his kingdom, which can win us out of fiefdom and invite us into a Great Adventure.

  1. And we thought we understood why one said, “I die daily.” We start out religiously thinking we got this stuff. In the end, it all lies on the floor, useless, and it’s great! Years ago God spoke to me through another, “Stay under the cloud.” This made me so angry for days. As it slowly dawned upon me, I gradually let it go. All of these years later, I finally got that He was telling me, “That’s why it’s more helpful to live in the bits God has revealed of himself to us, rather than making assumptions about what we think he ought to do if he shared in the agendas of our little fiefdom. ” I am fully convinced that the Garden was the place where He intended for their identities to be made known by eating of the tree of life. Fiefdom led them to take a short cut, and mess it all up…and here we are. Yielding to love never steers us wrong, even while we are jerking the wheel around. Outcome based driven agenda get terrible mileage and very high maintenance! Cruise is so much nicer!!!
