Erring On the Side of Love (#703)

"We have to question the intentions of any group that insists on disdain toward other people as a membership requirement," said Brené Brown, in Daring Greatly.  Wayne's two coauthors for A Language of Healing for a Polarized Nation, Bob Prater of Bakersfield, CA and Arnita Taylor of Dallas, TX, join him for a discussion on how to live generously in the world, especially with people who we might be tempted to perceive as our enemy. They talk about having a growth mindset that allows you to take in new experiences and learn from them. Their new book releases November 19. If you'd like to be part of the Launch Team for this book or to join the authors in Dallas or Southern call, see Wayne's blog about how to do that. If you'd like to pre-order your book, you can do so at the link below.

  1. Not long enough! Hope that wasn’t Joe you were talking about Wayne. He’s a very avid Trump supporter….Me too. But I do cringe sometimes at the things he says….I just don’t think he realizes what he’s doing. I don’t know. The world does need healing….starting with the individual. Loved what Bob was saying…wish e had gone into what that scripture about light and darkness meant. I fellowship or get along with lots of people who believe differently from me and I love them. But I do get concerned about their salvation. I have been given the fruit of kindness and I love when it comes out of me. We all have the fruits of the Holy Spirit if we have accepted Him. So After reading the first part of the book and hearing you…I will pray to let those fruits flow! You are all a blessing. I’m going back and listen again. Love, Sarah

    • (From Wayne) Rest easy, Sarah. It wasn’t Bob! As far as the Scripture about light and darkness, I think that has to do with mingling our priorities, not having a connection of love with someone. If light has to avoid darkness, then the Incarnation can’t happen. And it isn’t darkness that ever overwhelms the light that wins overwhelms darkness. Religious fears of being tainted by darkness ruined these passages for us. Love freely, partner wisely!

  2. I would like to say many wonderful things about your conversation..it was very meaningful, as well as inspiring. I love the title, as it describes the content perfectly..yet right now I am preoccupied with the fires and the fury of the wind in California. I know that Wayne, you and Sarah live in Ventura County. Also that Julie along with her family live somewhere not too far from you. And Bob lives in Bakersfield. I am thinking of all of you as well as your families, friends and neighbors. All of the animals as well. Thoughts and prayers seem so inadequate.
Thank you for all the many ways you continue to touch my life.

    • Hi Pat. Thanks for your concern. Though Bob, Julie, Sara, and I seem to be out of harm’s way for the moment, there are two new fires in our area that started today during a high wind event. There are so many around us being affected by these fires and it is so incredibly tragic. Thanks for your concern and prayers for all involved.
