The Traditional Congregation (#1005)

Wayne and Kyle received a letter from a pastor concerned that this podcast, which he loves, gives little credence to the value of more traditional congregations. So, they process his letter, responding to his concerns and discussing where traditional congregations can be healthy and encouraging to someone's spiritual journey, and how they can, often unwittingly, begin to trespass on that journey and become more of a barrier than a bridge.

  1. Hey guys

The need for people to find acceptance for their walk whether it be inside or outside the “ institutional” side of things is a comparison that is unnecessary and indeed can confuse the simplicity, peace, clarity and direction of the spirits leading.
Why would there be a need for someone who is part of the seemingly institutional side of things, to get clarification for what he describes as the flourishing church he is pastor of? If he is “ leading it” in the format of what I “know” to be the reason I moved on then what can I gain from this discussion. Most of what you said has been said a thousand times before. Kyle said that he would not be inclined to “go” there if it had the old traits of conformity etc attached. Nothing new there. Now I know that there are people saved among these congregations I was one of them. Why would I want a new believer to get saved outside the church walls ( which a large percentage of us were) then send them into a mindset of religious dealings? If there are these flourishing establishments, then like you said, well and good but I don’t have the need nor the desire to return to the distraction of format nor would I encourage it for a new believer. I haven’t seen the inside of the walls of a church building for 30 years but what I have seen is the inside of a heart that beats for all of us which keeps me from falling completely. His grace is all I need. If I was the only person who believed I know he would support me no matter the trial or lack of understanding. Anyway I am raving now.
    Catch you.

  2. Would it be possible for the podcasts to be transcribed for a reader/learner type to follow? I guess I’m old school. Forgive me if they are and I missed the link.

    Thank you

    • Hi Steve,

I know Apple provides a transcription as you listen to podcasts there. Other dictation programs on most computers will transcribe it too. I’m sorry, it’s just not something I have time for in this season of life. Hopefully one of this ways will work for you and others who preserve to read the podcast.

  3. Steve, I understand how you feel. There are different styles of learning, and many people do better with one than others. I’m a reader myself. This is the only podcast I follow. But when I’m listening to it, I try to do something with my hands that doesn’t require much verbal mental action.

  4. Steve seems to miss his answer which is right in front of him. When the questions he presents are presented to him, he is the one in the great place to build a one on one relationship with the individual that has the question(s). A good place to start is dinner at home with them.
