What it Means to Abide (#1006)

What would change if you trusted God's presence abiding in you instead of seeking to feel his love? Wayne and Kyle read through a recent Facebook post by Graham Cook that talks about the difference between resting in his habitation instead of seeking encounters with him. When you realize that you can stop chasing what you already have, rest in relationship instead of working for relationship, practice awareness of existing presence instead of creating encounters, live from His promise, not your feelings, and make his presence your dwelling place, not your occasional destination.

  1. Thanks Kyle and Wayne, just finished hearing this conversation. WOW…one occasion where God has “pulled some threads together ” as you like to say Wayne. Some pressures feel unrelenting as they are long term family/trauma issues that the Holy Spirit is patiently “dancing me through”. I would love to have the answers more quickly “Lord I have been patient for a long time with this”. Then it is also very nuanced as there are instances where Jesus has moved very obviously and powerfully to address particular situations. There’s more to be said but then this would become a book. Appreciate that this conversation focused on moving from strain into a more restful place of being with him.

    • So glad to hear it was helpful to your journey, Sue. Yes, we’d all love it if God worked faster, but I think he’s on the pace that leads to real healing, not just cosmetic fixes.

  2. Amazing! Just a few days ago I had questions to which now I have confirmed answers. For me staying in the present has given me the space I needed to lean into the reality of his presence in me always. Thank you.

  3. What was the title, Practicing His Presence? What an effort. It’s taken years for him to break through/get into my skull and heart. It’s much easier to relax. Even my wife is happier with me in a relaxed state.

  4. Wayne I have just finished listening to your conversation with Kyle over here in the UK.
Thankyou for putting into words that which I have been living and feeling there was something wrong with me and my relationship with the Lord because I wasn’t doing all the religious stuff I once did.
4 weeks ago I had spinal surgery to decompress bulging discs, the pain I had after surgery was so bad it was unbearable but in it all I knew the Lord was right there with me bring8ng me comfort and Peace. One day I experienced the true experience of resting in His Love His presence was so tangible in me I have now the reality of knowing my God is with me always. Bless you Wayne for the years I have understood so much through the words you have spoken.

  5. Thank you, Valerie. I’m sorry for your surgery and the pain that was part of it. Finding God in the depths of our pain and resting in his love when circumstances seem against us is a great gift. It will serve you well. Thanks for sharing a bit of your story. May God equip you with all his goodness and love. – Wayne

  6. Thank you, thank you, thank you……….. for reminding me what is so simply awesome and true. The fight more often is not against the enemy as it is holding on to the truth of God’s word that He will never leave us or forsake us and the reality of this. So often we end up like Jacob, struggling with God for that which He has already given us. Thank you, thank you, thank you again.
