The Root of Desire (#1015)

"Love fulfills the law because it fills us." After a brief conversation about a perspective shift in challenging times and sharing inexhaustible love, Kyle and Wayne discuss finding our fullness in him.  They plough through an article about desire. It turns out humans enjoy getting the thing they desire than having it. The dopamine hit that comes from procuring what's desired doesn't last long, which is why so many are almost immediately out seeking the next new thing. What if the root of our desires is for God himself? Trying to fill that desire with anything else would always fail. Finding our fullness it him would let us live with gratitude and appreciation, no matter what we possess, rather than the constant yearning and dissatisfaction.

  1. Really enjoyed Wanye talking about surfing on the wave of love, that God gifts our hearts in His grace … yet what I would like to mention; only to the humble ones who deeply understand how much they depend on Him in everything, that no good lasting fruit will result from their own efforts.

Apart from that, the next topic that came up with the car as an example – in my sight this endless wanting/desire is the selfish flesh itself that we must starve and let die, before we can really embrace the selfless love God wants to give us, before we can even find satisfaction of our soul in selfless love. Thinking about John 12:24, 2 Peter 1:3-4 and 1 John 2:15-17:

“Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.” (The Message)

  2. Wayne and Kyle, thanks so much for this podcast! It came at just the right time for me. I think that some times we find ourselves so invested in that mentality that I must do more or I must have more that we fail to understand that our Father knows what we NEED and will always provide it. Thanks for reminding me that the true treasure is the wonderful, endless and complete love that our Father has given us!

  3. Just finished the second part of the podcast … oh sounds good this new book with Toby …

Been thinking about Galatians 6:7-10 while listening, that love (primarily) for brothers and sisters, being there and care for one another, is the way to experience the eternal life, and also gets us to know Jesus deeper (1 John 4:7), which transforms us even more into His image (2 Cor. 3:18).
I think its a problem when christians try to get a relationship with Jesus only by praying and seeking Him and listening to sermons, because the Master said:

“The person who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him [I will make Myself real to him].” Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, what has happened that You are going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus answered, “If anyone [really] loves Me, he will keep My word (teaching); and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling place with him.”
    John 14:21-23 (AMP)

Now people try to make this vice-versa, but God gives grace to the humble to enable them to do His will (Heb. 12:28) … and being there and caring for one another isnt that hard (1 John 3:23 & 5:2-3). And when we have the main satisfaction of our soul in the kingdom of Jesus love, then we can also enjoy life in a healthy way without steadily falling in sin (Gal. 5:13, John 4:34).
