Our Truth and God’s Truth (#877)

"Your truth" is only valuable when it aligns with the Creator's reality. It is so easy for all of us to spin the narrative we want to be true, especially if it comforts us. But transformation and freedom arise where what we believe to be true is increasingly aligned with God's perspective of us and the situations we are in. Kyle and Wayne talk about that and those unexpected moments when God lets us in on something real and invites us to integrate it into our story. They also revisit last year's trauma story through letters from listeners who have been touched by that story.

Podcast Notes:
The video version of the recording of this podcast
Our first Wrestling with Trauma conversation will be held this Saturday, January 14, at 11:00 am PST.  You'll have to do the math to figure out what that might be in your time zone.  Like the Jake Colsen Book Club, we'll be moving these around to different times to help accommodate people in different parts of the world. If you'd like to join us this week, please email me for the Zoom link. We'll be limiting it to the first twelve who request a link, but don't worry, we will have more. These are not teaching sessions, nor will they build on each other. Each will be a conversation to serve those who join us and will not be recorded or streamed online. The next session of the Jake Colsen Book Club will be held Saturday, January 21, at 1:30 pm PST.  You'll have to work that out in your own time zone. This one will be on chapter 7, When You Dig a Hole For Yourself, You Have to Throw the Dirt on Someone. This chapter deals with how religious performance destroys relationships by making them competitive rather than living inside his love for others. We will stream it live on my Facebook Author Page, but if you want to be part of the conversation, you can get a link to the Zoom Room by emailing Wayne and asking for it.

  1. Kyle I so identify your comment about Paul I have struggled with how many times he seemed to be so legalistic and so compassionate in many scriptures.Wayne I so appreciated what you said that the translations have slanted it toward church authority.
So since hearing this I have been reading Paul’s writings in a whole new light and I am being blessed many times over thank the both of you.
Wayne I am praying for Sarah this morning for her surgery
    May God Bless you both

  2. Here’s a thought that came to me in November of 2011. It was morning, and I was not thinking about anything in particular while sitting quietly. I was however going through some major changes in that I walked away from the life I had for 31 years. I was starting over.
This thought stunned me and I knew it came from The Spirit. I posted it on Facebook immediately. Facebook was kind of my blog back then where I often posted thoughts. No responses then. Lol, I don’t think my friends had a clue what I spoke of.
So it came up in my Memories last November and I wrote it down in my journal.
I am sending it to you because of the conversation ya’ll had in this podcast and in others brings it back to my mind. And it just makes me feel important once again to my Father, that He sees it all.

“Do you think that maybe the impurities He is burning away in us are from the Accuser who condemns and the other lies we have allowed ourselves to believe in the name of god? But which really isn’t Him at all. That He is trying to perfect in us the true knowledge of His love?”

It has been quite a journey since that morning. I want to share with Wayne, Kyle, and Sara so much gratitude for sharing your journeys. I am not sure where some of the help, encouragement, and support you have given would have come from for me without your podcasts. You guys are my tribe and my friends though we have never met.

    • I love your observation, Sharon, and think that is a big part of his purifying our hearts. Traditional Christianity has so focused on “sin” that we think that’s what all the purifying is about. But we sin because we do not know him as he is. Knowing him and trusting him will displace the sin in our life. It’s the lies about God and ourselves that trip us up the most.

I appreciate your heart and am blessed to share this journey with you.
