Finding the Courage for Truth (#939)

At the start of their transcontinental trip to Virginia and back, Wayne and Sara pause in Austin, TX, to catch-up on Sara's journey and the continuing work of freedom Jesus is doing from her early childhood trauma. Recently, Sara's counselor affirmed the rare passion she demonstrates to discover the truth about herself and it has served her well in the process. Sara talks about the tools that have been built in her life to give her the courage to stay in that pursuit.

  1. Wow great job ! This demonstrates a beautiful picture of the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us into all truth. Im going to have many topics to discuss with you guys and wish you were in Oregon and not on your way to Virginia. Ill try and limit my florid prose and make some interesting points. Im on a similar Godjourney tracking through mindfulness external behavior patterns back inside the cup and dish where sin has its roots . Also of note was how many of Richard Schwartz 8 Cs Sarah used during this podcast(Please see my post on #938). Richard Schwartz identifies the 8 Cs with the true self and some Christian IFS therapists identify it with the Imago Dei. My amazing journey thus far has shown me a transformative Neuroscience based model thats built into how God created us. The link Im enclosing thoroughly explains it. For a Christian this is a game changer in being able to cooperate with the Holy Spirit the agent of all creation. The target in neuroscientific terms are implicit memories where all dysfunctional automatic behaviors and trauma are stored. These schemas(implicit memories have to be tracked down and illuminated by the Holy Spirit and experienced and embodied emotionally while juxtaposing the implicit memory(the lie which isnt the true state of our current situation ) . You see this most clearly in scripture from the Psalms relative to this context. Im very excited for us both Sarah. Keep up the courageous, compassionate ,caring ,creative, connected , clear and calm work. The link Id enjoy listening to your thoughts about….https://www.psychotherapynetworker.org/article/unlocking-emotional-brain/

    • So true, as long as we remember that this process is a work of the Spirit, in his time and in conjunction with the readiness of the person stuck in trauma. If we attempt to standardize this process with a set of principles, we will do more to distract from his work than cooperate with it.

  3. Agreed….I actually learned not to be prescriptive from you and all of the other trauma informed mentors over the years. Apologies if in my enthusiasm concerning what I believe God is showing me this remotely appeared prescriptive or insensitive. It’s a year wait for me to get in to see a clinician of any kind so of course I’ve invited the Holy Spirit to be my Counselor. As you said concisely only water under the bridge might reveal whether I’m actually hearing from God or its as Brad Cummins once said,”Bad Pizza”.

    • Randy, I didn’t take your comments as insensitive or prescriptive. I caught that you were sharing what has been of real help and blessing to you. I celebrate that with you. just wanted to remind others that healing is a work of the Spirit, and while he may use a plethora of resources, there is no one-size-fits-all process for healing. Once people codify their story or wisdom into a curriculum, they unwittingly empty it of its power. I’ve seen it happen too many times to count. They then end up teaching a process instead of helping people learn what it means to lean into Jesus as the only source of healing.
