The Adventure Swirling Around You (#955)

"Who is your rabbi?" That's what Kyle asks Wayne as they plunge into a discussion about discipleship. Who is the person affecting your perception of Jesus, your worldview, and how you walk with Jesus.  Where they land is making disciples doesn't mean we're telling people what to do and what to believe, but discipleship is about encouraging and equipping others to enjoy their own adventure of learning to discern the nuances of the Spirit's breath and following him. Others may influence our journey, but those who do it best will connect us to Jesus not to themselves or their school of thought. That leads to a further question: How do we know the Jesus we seek is the Jesus who really is?

  1. Thank you both for this. A very good reminder. My daughter (16) and I are praying for direction after she gets her AS two year degree this December. We hear the call of missions for her and not yet seeing the next step come mid-December. I appreciate a prayer from you both for us. I felt from Jesus yesterday when fasting and praying to just hear whatever He wanted to speak whether that be the next step or not and felt Him speaking to me to die more to self for His life fully through me and even felt called to missions to those who haven’t heard just as my daughter feels called. Idk if our family will all go.
There is a mega church my daughter was blessed go with a youth group there to El Salvador this summer and wondering if she/we join that church’s pathways for missions or YWAM or something else.

Thank you both very refreshing podcast

    • Hi Victoria, I know God will show you and your daughter the best way forward for her and pray that you both will be in a place to see and hear his nudges. I pray she will be relaxed, knowing that if this is God’s call he has a way to do it. Sometimes our haste to fulfill a passion outruns his wisdom. So, that’s where I’m praying. Life moves at the speed of relationship and that’s always slower than most of us can tolerate.

      • Thank you! Love this! Life moves at the speed of relationship hallelujah!

Yesterday at church service there was a family who led youth group for 11 years now going to unreached place in Asia, they invited my daughter ha ha! We will see if that is an open door…I read yesterday His signposts are clear and point to the right road. Another missionary family in same town also invited our family to come. My daughter has felt peace she doesn’t need to know the whole plan just the next step He leads her. I pray my planner personality will submit to His peace to trust His nudges and He will show us.

  2. I will admit, when I first met Jesus at 20, there was a prominent megachurch pastor I latched onto, who taught me about grace, and was a proponent of the 12-step programs which I was a part of at the time. I even went as far as attending his church and moving to the area, but it didn’t work out. He has since passed away. The church is still in existence and espouses the principles it was built upon from the beginning.

My journey has had several twists and turns since then, which included a time following radio ministries of primarily Calvinist pastors, which exacerbated my perfectionism and left me unwell and disillusioned.

I’ve found The God Journey about 10 years ago. I don’t quite remember how I did, but most important is that I am grateful that I did. What I’ve learned here most is that the life of Jesus is one worth following, is dynamic and all-encompassing. Jesus is not confined to the four walls of the church or a couple of hours on Sunday, He is a 24-7-365 presence in my life, whether I always see Him or feel His presence or not. And that is comforting. The God Journey is less about me, and more about Him. Thank you for helping me see that.

    • You’re welcome, Ron. What a lovely post. I’m so amazed at the work you’ve allowed Jesus to do in your heart through some very difficult and painful places. You’re a treasure!
