The Conversation of Community (#970)

From listener emails, a one-thousand-year-old quote, and their own life experience, Kyle and Wayne celebrate the wonder and beauty of God showing up in conversations that inspire us to follow him and give us a better grasp on who God is. That's the power of community, where God makes himself known in us through the conversations we are having with others. They discuss how to let God lead you to such conversations, recognize them when he does, and help open the door for others to join you in conversations that matter. Then, they talk briefly about the sentence Wayne has been working on to unpack a justice view of the Gospel.

  • The Sentence:  "God desires to win you into his love so that he can breathe his Life into you, setting you increasingly free from the tyranny of your selfish desires, so, you’ll be free to love others, treating them justly, the way you’d want them to treat you, and thus, reveal his glory in the world around you."

  1. I’m sorry I don’t have those details. This is what was sent to me in an email:

    This is all I have:

From Peter Hoover (1190) “Gioacchino observed that there is no such thing as a set and standard organisation known as the Christian church. Instead, the living body of Christ comes and goes, waxes or wanes, appearing or disappearing, according to how the Spirit of the Lord directs those lowly enough to hear his voice. Was this to keep all believers from getting set in their ways, too sedentary, dozing off, perhaps, in the spiritual slumber of human organisation?

I’ve searched on this quote online and have not found it yet. Sorry.

  2. Thank you. I am in my backyard with a blanket (West coast of British Columbia) crying as I listen. So much is going on at this moment. I can’t even begin to know who to pray for first. I needed to hear your kind and gentle voices discussing the most important things…I do feel like I get to be your friend. Not in a weird way! The quote speaks volumes to us as we are going through a church transition.
I will be listening to this again with my husband. We are continuing to pray for your health. Peace and love from Vancouver Island.

  3. Thank you Lori. I’m sorry you’re going through such pain and pray that Father will lead you by his mercy and grace you with his goodness. I’m glad the podcast touched you like it did. I pray God will give you fellowship with others where where you are on Vancouver Island. What a lovely spot!
