Patriarchy Diminishes Us All (#1039)

Wayne, Kyle, and Joni continue their conversation about patriarchy, moving from cultural systems and religious interpretations into the deeper ways those ideas shape how men and women see God, themselves, and each other. From reactions to The Shack portraying God through a woman, to Scriptures that have been used to silence women, to current controversies in evangelical culture, they explore how Jesus opened a far wider door than the systems built in his name often allow. The conversation also turns toward desire—how religion often teaches restraint without helping people discover the beauty of God-authored desires expressed in love rather than shame, control, exploitation, or transaction. Along the way, they wrestle with traditional values, parenting, sexuality, and the long journey of untangling distorted desires so that both women and men can find the freedom, dignity, and fullness God always intended.

  1. Hello to all 3 of you….listening to this podcast and wanting to express appreciation for the discussion of desire. As a woman in canada, love that you take sexuality and combine with desires of every nuance and how it points back to Jesus’ love. Painful learning “dragon scales being removed”…but the gift of this unveiling of hunger from God is his gift and his movement toward intimacy. Blessings Sue
