Hosting His Presence Inside Us (#1041)
How do we cultivate the environment in our hearts to host the God who is already present within us? Kyle and Wayne explore further how God shapes us from the inside—through identity, beauty, relationships, surrender, and the ordinary moments where his presence is already at work. Rather than trying to force a spiritual experience or get God to fix our circumstances the way we want, perhaps the invitation is to recognize where he is already with us and open more space for his love to transform us. From finances and purpose to marriage, leadership, and spiritual practices, they look at the environments that help us live more deeply in the Father’s affection and reflect his life in the world.

Thanks for your impressions of Thirst book that I am also reading. I haven’t gotten to part you referenced, but I found myself turned off by some of language in the first 2 chapters. I had yuck factor reaction to it. Still reading it, but not sure I’ll finish it.
Hi Sally. Keep in mind he writes from a pretty religious context. It amazes me he sees some of the things he does. But like all things, I eat the chicken and toss the bones. My yuck meter is very helpful int hat regard. If there are more bones than chicken for you, there is no need to stick it out. Overall, I was touched by the book and grateful to have read it. I gleaned a lot of great thoughts from his journey.
Ditto on the word surrender.
How about “cede”?
Thanks, Lois, for jumping in on this. Interesting word, I’ve taken a minute to see if that would work for me, and It still sounds a bit like reluctant capitulation to me. Maybe “follow” works here. The “surrender” I speak of is more the settled realization that he knows best about it all, has ways to deal with my stuff that I would never think of, and I just want to lean into that reality, even before I know what he has in mind. Any other suggestions for what we’re looking for here?
Thanks Lois and Wayne for the processing here. Wish that this could be a verbal conversation (smile) but appreciate very much the chance to look at the difference between knowing Jesus has much higher wisdom and turning to him(gentle approach) than “ok fine, you know better , I’ll do what you say”. One is invitational/relational while the other has a sense of coercian.
What a beautiful way to end this podcast…Eliana saying “When I am in the woods I feel God…” That is so very precious. I love to take my grandkids hiking and whether they say those words or not I will continue to take them out into God’s creation. Thanks for the encouragement.
Hi Wayne and Kyle! Really enjoyed this lovely session. Thank you for talking it thru, the awareness of Gods love coming from an inner place rather than something somewhere hard to find out there. I struggle a lot with that mentality – trying to make God appear to me even after I’ve learned I don’t need to. So I really appreciated the simplicity aspect of this. And I loved the surrender part too – I feel like it’s always a relief when I get to the end of struggle and am like “oh yeah! I have a partner in this who’s been waiting for me to let him help!” Haha. Frustrating when I forget it so easily and try to do everything including our whole relationship by myself! Lots of legalism training that I’m slowly healing from but it’s like one step forward two steps back sometimes.
